Broadway is a count before it is a place: 41 houses. Five theatres were demolished in 1982 to build a hotel. The fight over those five is why most of the surviving 41 are now protected by law.
Three new musicals against a calendar of plays, revivals and limited runs. Most productions opened with a closing date already announced.
The Federal Theatre Project ran from August 29, 1935 to June 30, 1939. At its peak it employed more than 10,000 theatre workers in 40 states. Its Living Newspapers turned housing, farming and electricity policy into stage plays. Its posters, scripts and photographs sit in the Library of Congress, free to use.
