Opened in 1925 as Chanin's 46th Street Theatre and later known as the 46th Street Theatre. It was renamed in 1990 for composer Richard Rodgers. Hamilton has played the house since 2015.

The house is in the Theater District, within walking distance of the Times Square-42nd Street subway and transit hub.
